Ahead of tonight’s surprise debut, let’s go to an interview with AEW President Tony Khan regarding the signing.

Khan would speak to Sports Illustrated to provide more information, calling the signing ‘huge’, whilst revealing that it will set up an upcoming show. He would say:

“It’s a huge signing for us. I have created some debate about what it means to open the ‘Forbidden Door’ and that’s what we are going to do on this show. The fans are going to get a great night of wrestling, and I hope everyone is surprised—and comes back for the matches this sets up.”

“It’s going to be a big reveal on Dynamite. It sets up this week’s Rampage and puts a lot of irons in our fire. We have created an environment in AEW where people routinely expect great wrestling matches, and we have the wrestlers to live up to those high expectations.”

Tony would also speak with PWInsider ahead of tonight’s show, doubling down on his claims, this time calling it a ‘major signing’. He would say:

“I don’t think I’ve exactly been so specific about who’s coming, but I said it’s going to be a major signing for us and I think it’s going to be a very exciting night. Like I said, I have opened the forbidden door and I don’t want to say exactly what’s going to happen or when it’s going to happen, but it’s going to be an eventful night. And I hope that people get their expectations met.”

“Frankly, I’ve seen a lot of other speculations and there are a lot of great names out there. And anything we do on this particular Wednesday night Dynamite, it doesn’t limit us in the future from finding some of these other people. There’s a lot of exciting names and opening the forbidden door there will allow to these big names.”

“So there are a lot of possibilities and I don’t want to get too specific on the speculation. But there’s going to be somebody who’s going to sign with AEW going forward and be a part of the company. And as I also said, I would open the forbidden door. Without getting too specific to what that means is, it’s definitely opened up some speculation.”

Whilst it’s not entirely clear who the debut will be, with there still being no leaks confirming it outright, reports from the Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer suggest that Keith Lee is on his way to AEW, although it’s not confirmed if this will be for this match or not.

This no doubt adds a level of excitement to AEW Dynamite tonight, with fans eager to see who is set to walk through the ‘forbidden door’.
