AEW To Sign Top Free Agent?

A free agent could be heading to All Elite Wrestling.

Last night, Fightful Select would report that Buddy Matthews, the former Buddy Murphy in WWE, is set to join AEW.

Sources within the company have indicated that there is growing interest and rumblings about Matthews backstage, with creative pitches being made. Another source noted that creative plans are already in place.

Several AEW talents have been told that the working plan is to bring in Matthews at some point in the future, word that has been going around since January.

On last night’s AEW Dynamite, there was a video package involving Malakai Black and Brody King, with a new addition to the House of Black being teased.

King would ask Black who they were waiting for, with him responding “history”, whilst holding a card which said “judgement”.

This would be an ideal role for Matthews to fill, with him having a long history with Black going back to their days in WWE. The increasingly damaged eye of Malakai was inflicted by Buddy Murphy when he drove his eye into the corner of the steel steps during an episode of Monday Night RAW in July 2020.

As well as this, the two men would release very similar videos to their social media following their WWE release.

The videos would be set inside the same asylum, with both men being granted their release from the facility. The promos also had the same cast. The doctor dealing with both patients was played by Josiah Williams.

Could Matthews be the next member of The House of Black?
