CM Punk Picks Up His First AEW Loss

And next let’s move on to the main event of last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite live from Chicago, Illinois at the Wintrust Arena.
On the night, CM Punk would finally get his hands on the dastardly MJF in front of his hometown crowd, but things didn’t go to plan for the Straight Edge Superstar.
Early on in the match, MJF seemed to have scored the win after using tape to choke his opponent out, all whilst covering the foreign object up with his arm. The referee would call for the bell with Punk unable to respond, although the match would be restarted with the ref finally noticing the tape laying on the floor.
At the matches conclusion, The Pinnacle’s Wardlow would arrive at ringside to confront Punk, all whilst dropping the Dynamite Diamond Ring to MJF who was laying on the floor behind him.
This opened up the chance for MJF to knock Punk out cold with the ring behind the referee’s back, allowing MJF to pin his opponent for the win.
This marks CM Punk’s first loss in AEW since his arrival in August 2021, with his overall record now standing at 11-1. This also means his 2022 record stands at 2-1.
The victory is no doubt MJF’s biggest of his career, not only defeating his former idol CM Punk, but doing so in his very own backyard of Chicago.
The feud between the two is no doubt far from done, with Punk now likely to seek redemption for the tainted loss, possibly at the upcoming AEW Revolution pay-per-view on March 6th, 2022.
