Cody Rhodes Jumping Back To WWE?
We have an update regarding the AEW contract of Cody Rhodes, as well as a potential-jump to WWE.
Cody is currently still working without an All Elite Wrestling contract, with it having expired over 2-months ago. This had originally been reported by Fightful, with Cody later confirming the news during a backstage promo for the AEW YouTube Channel.
This week, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio, who is close to many behind the scenes in AEW, has offered some insight into Cody’s situation, confirming that Rhodes is yet to renew his AEW deal. His name is said to have came up in WWE, with a potential move back to the company far from impossible. Meltzer would say:
“He still has not signed and originally when he hadn’t signed, it just seemed like one of those things but you know here we are. We’re in mid-February, the contract was up at the end of December or maybe January 1st but yes a lot of talk about Cody Rhodes. It is probably best said that before I would have said there was a minimal possibility that he wasn’t gonna sign but I would not say that now.”
“I think there’s a lot of people who think it’s up in the air of what is going to happen next. So he’s a big name free agent right now. Rhodes To The Top was renewed for a second season so that’s a good reason to stay with the Warner Media family but at the same time, he’s not signed and in WWE they thought there was a chance – it was definitely something that was talked about today in certain circles of the potential of something happening there.”
Whilst Cody is set to appear in the second season of his reality show Rhodes To The Top, this deal is with Warner Media and not AEW themselves, although the network would likely prefer the series to follow his journey in AEW rather than WWE.
The Cody Rhodes situation continues to be an interesting one, with his future still very much up in the air.
