Former WWE & WCW Referee Passes Away

We have some sad news to report as a former WCW and WWE referee has passed away.

PWInsider would report that Mickie Henson, best known by his working name Mickey Jay, has passed away at the age of 59. Mickey had been battling pneumonia caused by the COVID-19, which caused him severe lung damage.

He would be taken off life-support last night.

Henson broke into the business as a referee in 1987 during the later days of Championship Wrestling from Florida, working for Dusty Rhodes and Steve Keirn. He was then hired by WCW in the ’90s and stayed there until their eventual sale to WWF in 2001.

He would later sign with WWE in 2005, before leaving his refereeing role in 2008 after a Mantle Cell Lymphoma diagnosis, something he later defeated. He would officially depart the company one year later. He would also overcome a battle with cancer, having previously been told he only had months to live.

Our thoughts go out to his friends and family during this difficult time.
